Captain Marvel marked a turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where the leading character is a strong female instead of a male. While this may not seem like a big deal, it’s notable in that it’s the first of its kind, and has set the stage for more Marvel movies focused around a leading heroine.
That isn’t to say, of course, that Marvel hasn’t had its share of strong female characters. Take Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, for example, which is strong, capable, sexy, and bold. But she hasn’t yet starred in a film of her own.
